TMC Golf

Tulsa Men’s Club golf is divided into three categories:  Weekly Golf, Golf Outings and golf integrated into out of town trips.

WEEKLY GOLF

Weekly golf is a ‘pick-up game’ kind of arrangement. The ‘weekly golf chairman’ uses his discretion about when and where to play, based on weather and course conditions.  He then contacts the selected course and arranges for one or more tee times base upon his estimate as to how many will want to play.  Once the time and place has been set, the ‘golf chairman’ then notifies members when and where golf will be played.  Members are asked to respond if they want to join in the fun.  That way, if fewer members than anticipated sign up and too many tee times have been reserved, the ‘golf chairman’ can, as a courtesy, notify the course and change the number of reserved tee times.

During the winter months, golf is sporadic due to weather conditions.  Weekly Golf is hence kind of a misnomer.  More correctly, it is ‘Whenever weather permits golf'.

Usually, tee times are set up on Tuesday or Thursday so to not conflict with those members who belong to the local Senior Golf League.

Several courses around Tulsa are played on a semi-regular basis.  They are: SouthLakes, Paige Belcher (both the Old Paige and Stonecreek courses), Black Jack Canyon (Sand Springs), La Fortune (champion and par three courses), Woodbine (Mohawk Park)

GOLF OUTINGS

Golf outings, on the other hand, are well organized events under the purview of the board member in charge of Special Events.  There is usually one Special Event golf outing scheduled per year.  These involve a large number of TMC members, and their wives/guests.  Sometimes the event takes place in Tulsa (Meadowbrook Country Club; The Oaks Country Club) and then again it may be out of town (Downstream Casino and Golf Club near Joplin, MO; Shangri La Resort on Grand Lake).  Golf Outings usually include an after-play dinner where awards are given for different accomplishments (longest drive near fairway center line, longest putt, closest to the hole, etc.)

OUT OF TOWN TRIPS

Trips are occasionally cobbled together whenever an interesting place comes to some member’s attention.  These trips can include anywhere from 10 to 40 people.  Trip examples: Santa Fe, NM, Kansas City, MO, Pinehurst, NC. San Diego, CA, Hot Springs, AR.  Almost every trip inserts one or more rounds of golf.  We’ve played some pretty nice courses over the years.
